Kolibri is a "hobby" project operating system written entirely in assembly code. It is very small, and very fast.
ReactOS is an open source operating system that is designed to be binary-compatible with and functionally equivalent to Windows 2000/XP. As of this entry (Wednesday, January 26, 2011), the project is in the alpha stage.
